Aileen is “the girl standing on one leg” who’s been popping up on those yoga posters around town since 2003. She's been studying and practicing yoga since 1989. She holds a B.A. and a B.Ed. and is a former teacher. She is a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher and a Registered Yoga Teacher (Yoga Alliance).
Aileen moved in 1988 from her hometown of Saskatoon to Montreal and there discovered yoga. In her own life, she found yoga brought her more energy, less stress, more focus and ability to accomplish goals, as well as a deeply satisfying workout. She was hooked.
After 13 years of practice and many trainings at The Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in Massachusetts, Aileen decided to teach yoga, and became a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher in 2002, combining something beneficial in her own life with her love of teaching.
Aileen began teaching in Saskatoon in 2003 and in 2004 she founded Yoga Downtown and established a strong reputation for quality teaching. She loves to learn and continues to study, both with teachers in the Kripalu lineage and more recently, with Mary Lou Weprin, Patricia Dewar and others working with Donald Moyer at The Yoga Room in Berkeley. Aileen is known for her smile, her teaching skills, her knowledge of the body and her warmth.
In 2010 Aileen took a sabbatical year after selling Yoga Downtown -- and discovered just how much she missed teaching. She's thrilled to be home and to teach again in this beautiful space that she loves.
"I have progressed verrrrry far, ie strength, endurance, flexibility, and the wonderful good feeling after the class, and going home with such a wonderful, 'feeling good' feeling. ...Aileen is a superb instructor, and knowledgeable, skilled and gifted teacher." P. H.
"Aileen, your presence is so wonderful -- our voice, your help, your patience."
