Yoga in the big sense is an approach to life, including exercise, meditation, ethics, and philosophy.
Yoga in the immediate sense is a system of exercise emphasizing stretching and strengthening and taking into account the whole person – body, mind, emotions and spirit.
Yoga is more and more popular these days as people realize it brings energy, flexibility, strength, calm and overall well-being.
The word “yoga” first appears in written records 4,800 years ago in India. With that much history, there are countless styles and traditions of yoga today. I teach the Kripalu style of yoga and am a Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher.
"Aileen, you are a wonderful teacher. I have
started to feel at "peace" with my body. I have started letting some of
the stresses of life go. Thanks Aileen for introducing me to the joys
of yoga." P.M.C.
Benefits of Yoga
4,800 years of written history means something is working! Students of yoga describe benefits such as increased energy, decreased anxiety, better sleep, improved flexibility, greater strength, improved immunity, digestion, circulation, respiration, elimination – everything gets better! Yoga addresses the whole person and the whole person generally feels better for it!
Learning to breathe through challenging postures encourages self-awareness and compassion. Together with relaxation techniques, this can help students of yoga breath more easily and remain more calm through life's difficult times. Stress, anxiety and depression are often relieved; clarity and peace of mind often come knocking during practice or class.
Whether you want to improve or maintain your physical well-being, develop awareness and/or attain a sense of peace and compassion, Yoga with Aileen provides an oasis where all are welcome to gather in practice.
"I feel so refreshed and calm after yoga. I am more limber and my back is less stiff. I keep coming to your classes for a number of reasons:1) the facility is clean, orderly and inviting, 2) instructor is knowledgeable, friendly, approachable and dedicated and 3) I feel no pressure to compete but can be lost for an hour doing my best."C.R.
